Phyrnna is an Indie Musician composer famously known for her work on the game series “Epic Battle Fantasy”. Her music features a collection of tracks that are, as she would say it, “Not bound by Genre”.
Phyrnna does not have a significant online presence during her initial years of being an Indie Musician. It was only when she was commissioned to create the music for Epic Battle Fantasy 3, did her career as a musician start to take off.
Her work is a collection of something magical, and classifying it with genres would be missing the point and the motives behind her music. Regardless if it is the release of a single, or her work in one of the Epic Battle Fantasy games, they all share a particular charm that many would find distinct.
Calling it mere fantasy would be an understatement; Calling it modern wouldn’t be quite right. A listen to one of her most recent tracks “The Sweetest Summer Spent by Your Side” would give a certain core insight into how she composes her tracks. It’s something that is reminiscent of works presented by the ever beloved DJ Okawari.
Now, putting that composition philosophy into a game about the joys of youth, adventure and friendship, and a whole lotta fan service, you’ve got one hell of a story to talk about.
Take a listen to her contributions to the EBF series, and it’s clear why people would be fond of all of them. Not only are they very distinct between each other, but they are also incredibly memorable. From the unmistakable opening of “Of Rainbows”, The calm and dream-like atmosphere of “Estavius”, the whimsical and tropical tone of “We Dream of Booties! ”, to the orchestra grandeur of “Outside the Battlements”, and the threatening mechanical tones of “As the Shadows”, they are all great pieces of music that have their own individual personalities that is clear and easily understood, making them ample for telling stories and guiding the listeners through the messages it’s trying to convey. Calm, Home, Danger, Robotic, they are all made to get the listeners into the zone. To let them submerge into an epic fantasy, and feel what the characters may be feeling.
And come on, for all who had fought "God" before, you must admit that the vocal version of "A Breeze from Home" brought a tear to your eyes when you firs
All of Phyrnna’s tracks absolutely excels at capturing the atmosphere, which is exactly what makes her tracks both pleasurable and equally impressive. It is the ultimate tool to sell anyone to any fantasy, and each of Phyranna’s tracks never fails to deliver the exact feeling that is needed.
Of course, giving spotlight to her single releases is also very important. They are the testament to her journey as a musician, proof of how far she had progressed, and evidence of her excellence. Start with her work on the EBF series, or choose a random Single to indulge yourself with! I’m sure you’ll slowly start to understand the elements that I’m trying to poorly convey with mere words. Like many things with music, sometimes, the musician’s charm can’t be portrayed in words, only in their music.
Personally, I enjoy the music she releases, all of them have a certain charm to it that makes me keep listening to it, even though most of her tracks sound like video game music, it stands out from the rest in some way that I do not yet know how to describe.
For demonstration sake, let’s look at Return of the Snow Queen, a very well made introduction theme, it is something that tells you that whatever character that theme belongs to has complete control over the situation, that it has every advantage it needs to demolish its opposition, all while not sounding like an ally/enemy introduction, because of how there is not any indication no even the slightest that makes this sounds sinister nor benevolent, spoiling nothing while giving off an inkling of who that character might be/will be as to intrigue you. This sort of music will usually lead to Eiyu Senki tier of badness, which can make the track feel 1 dimensional, depthless, and being stylish for the sake of being stylish, but when done right like so, it can be something wonderful in the making like this song.
Besides that, Starlight Solstice is also something that can 100% be passed off as an ED for an RPG. (To be fair, it DID derive from another OST designed for the Epic Battle Fantasy series) The track itself, like every good ED, starts of fairly simple with piano and glockenspiel, then it slowly builds up complexity by adding a few more instruments later on, but it doesn’t overwhelm you with too many instrument or radical composition, it strikes that perfect spot, just enough space to act as a breathing room for you to reminiscence about the journey you went through in the game, and enough things going on in the background to keep your attention. For the vocals in this song however, it isn’t all that notable, quite generic if I must, probably because there is no prior context for it. As an example, I would always point to these two as probably the best ED I’ve heard of in my life so far, Hoshi Furu Sora Aogimite utawarerumono: Itsuwari no kamen’s ED (with vocal’s example) and Sen no Kiseki II’s 2nd ED (Instrumental only example).
Lastly I would like to talk about “The Sweetest Summertime” which is her latest release.
Jokes aside, Sweetest Summertime is a really good song, and the Rick Roll kinda brought another element level to it, which makes it even more enjoyable when listening to it.

How would one describe Phyrnna's music?
Her music is not bound by genre.
And each song carries its own unique flavor
Ranging From the calm and peaceful
To the dark and adventurous.
If there is one thing that connects all of her songs
It would be her motto

And also, the reason why this week is dedicated to her. Upon my first time listening to this song, I find that it sounds really nice and portrays the so called summer romance quite nicely, as I was about to look at this song a bit deeper however, I found out that the captions in this song is just a Rick Roll, and upon experiencing that, every cell in my body came to the agreement that “yup, this is the one for this week, no regrets or backpedaling whatsoever”. It is a bloody genius move, there are no vocals in this song, so you wouldn’t really need the captions for the lyrics anyways, but because of the sole reason of there are no lyrics in this song yet there is a caption button is enigmatic, that drew me to press it and surprise surprise I got Rick Rolled. Jokes aside, Sweetest Summertime is a really good song, and the Rick Roll kinda brought another element level to it, which makes it even more enjoyable when listening to it.
