dioxaria is an Indonesian Electronic music composer that have debuted since early 2021, and have since then created a sizable amount of music with much semblance to the touhou-esque music genre. diox’s music are mostly composed through synths, and often consists of bleak topics with equally bleak melodic progression to boot.
His music is evidently composed through the expression of emotions, with the titles of each track clearly stating exactly what kind of emotion the track is supposed to reflect. Aside from the resemblance to touhou-music, his music often reminded me of the type that are composed by more big-time music composers that you’d be familiar with in the Rhythm game community such as 3R2, t+pazolite, etc etc. Which is kind of what made me want to write about him in the first place.
There is enough musical depth, detail and heart placed into the tracks, that you can easily find diox’s music to be somewhat outstanding, and far from amateur work. Every now and then, his tracks may have violins taking center stage, accompanied by piano and steady stream of synths. Not to mention, some of his tracks may have a more obvious japanese influence, such as the track Oiran, which is a great track on it’s own, and greatly embodies the mysterious-esque style of japanese styled music. Qualities like these are what makes music compelling to me, and being able to create tracks that are constantly moving to different sections are the kind of music I’d flaunt over anytime.
I hope the reader may find the same sentiment I have with diox’s music. Even if that’s not the case, find enjoyment in his music at the very least.
Most of the songs that Dioxaria releases on his YT channel are mostly of the synth genre. From his earliest work till what is on his channel today, you can tell that Dioxaria has a place in his heart for touhou, as most of his releases resembles that of a touhou ost, one of his very first uploads which is a cover for the song goodbye sun by Runa, carries a lot of resemblances of Zun’s music which is heavy on the electronics yet the instruments are in no way obstructed by it.
Out of all his songs, Rasi Bintang and Langkah Maju would be on the top of my list, maybe dancing alone as well, but compared to the former two, dancing alone lacks the ompf that they carry. Dancing alone has its high and low ends, its high is ironically behind the low part of the song which can really convey the feeling of loneliness, the rest of the song however lacks that bit of subtlety and gives off the feel of a rhythm game. While Rasi Bintang and Langkah Maju both delivered on the feeling that it promises the listener with its title.
Of course not all his songs sound like a touhou piece, the lost girl for example, diverts from his original electronic style and emphasizes more on the piano and other instruments in the song, making it sound oddly pleasing and calming. Then there’s also smiling, a song Dioxaria made for Kiryu Coco’s Graduation, that one is beautiful in its own way, not by standing out in terms of genre, but you can really tell that he put a lot of heart into making it, as a send off to one important figure, with how serene the start is, you can tell that he didn’t skim on anything while composing that.
As a Indonesian music creator, the most I can hope for him (with my limited knowledge on the region) is that may he reach the height of Mbah Surip, the legend that made the Bagun tidur song,
